Ka Makana Ali‘i Hosts Big Idaho® Potato Truck Tour on April 15

KAPOLEI, HI (April 13, 2024) — Ka Makana Ali‘i is pleased to host the Big Idaho® Potato Truck Tour on Monday, April 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. The world's largest tater on wheels is coming to the Center for West O‘ahu fronting Five Guys.

Tipping the scale at four tons, the Big Idaho® Potato would take 7,000 years to grow and about two years to bake. It is equivalent to about 21,562 medium-sized Idaho potatoes, almost 1,000,000 average-sized French fries, or 20,217 servings of mashed potatoes. It is 802 times heavier than the largest potato ever grown, which weighed 11 pounds. Plus, the Idaho Potato Truck is 72 feet long, equivalent to two school buses, five cars or nine parking spots.

Idaho® potatoes are certified by the American Heart Association as a heart-healthy food. One potato has only 110 calories, no fat, cholesterol, gluten or sodium. In fact, one Idaho potato contains more potassium than a medium-sized banana and more vitamin C than a medium-sized apple.

Five Guys at Ka Makana Ali‘i is one of the stops on the Big Idaho® Potato Truck’s 12th cross-country journey. It began in 2012 as a one-year campaign to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Idaho Potato Commission and became quickly apparent with its success that it would be more than a one-year occurrence. The Big Idaho® Potato Truck travels the country promoting the American Heart Association and American Diabetes Association certified Idaho® potato and its mission to help small charities in towns and cities with its “A Big Helping” program, which partners with a local charity to donate $1 for every signature collected on its board, up to $500.
