Ka Makana Ali‘i Hosts Lei Ali‘i Concert Series Presented by Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement to Honor Prince Kūhiō

The community is invited to Center Court for a free, three-part concert series this month

KAPOLEI, HI (March 17, 2022) — Ka Makana Ali‘i is pleased to host the Lei Ali‘i Concert Series presented by the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement (CNHA) to honor Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana’ole on Fridays, March 18 and 25.

In celebration of Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana‘ole, CNHA and the community partnership Lei Ali‘i will be hosting a free, three-part concert series in Center Court from 6 to 8 p.m. The community is invited to relax and unwind on aloha Fridays with live music, hālau and an emcee. The hālau is based in Kapolei, Nā Lei O Ka ʻIwa Haʻa I Ka Lani, taught by Kumu Hula Tatiana Tseu Fox. Enjoy the sounds of the following local musicians:

  • Friday, March 18: Project Kuleana
  • Friday, March 25: Nā Waiho'olu'u o ke Ānuenue

“Ka Makana Ali‘i is excited to welcome our community to the Center with the Lei Ali‘i Concert Series,” said Stephanie England, general manager of the Center. “We’re grateful for this community partnership that honors Prince Kūhiō, who the name Ka Makana Ali‘i pays tribute to. CNHA has been a wonderful partner to our Center, hosting a number of events and activities that make positive impacts in our community.”

The name Ka Makana Ali‘i pays tribute to Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana’ole who conceived of the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act allotting hundreds of thousands of acres of government land to Native Hawaiians. This permanent homeland is a perpetual gift and legacy that lives on today. The Ka Makana Ali‘i logo features ti leaves, a symbol of good luck in Hawai‘i that signifies prosperity. The encircled ti leaves represent the vision of Ka Makana Ali‘i as the “Center for West O‘ahu,” while the subtle use of hands in making the offering reinforces the meaning of the Center’s name, “The Royal Gift.”
