Ka Makana Ali‘i Invites the Community to Free Shred Day at the Center for West O‘ahu on Saturday, April 17

Bring up to two file boxes full of paper to shred at this free one-day event, and discover spring trends at the Center’s weekend-long Style Refresh Sidewalk Sale

KAPOLEI, HI (April 14, 2021) — Ka Makana Ali‘i invites the public to a free community shred day at the Center for West O‘ahu on Saturday, April 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The community is invited to bring up to two file boxes full of paper to shred for free. The Center’s first community shred day will be held in the parking lot between Moani Island Bistro and PetSmart.

Shred days allow community members to securely and easily destroy paper documents, keeping confidential documents from fraudsters and creating awareness of protecting personal information. Any document that has personal information on it — such as names, addresses and account numbers — can be used to compromise your identity, so shredding these documents is the best way to keep you safe.

Ka Makana Ali‘i’s shred day is a great way to securely recycle paper. After documents are securely shredded, every piece is sent for recycling. Every ton of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, 3 cubic yards of landfill space, 4,000 kilowatts of energy and 7,000 gallons of water.

Shred-it Information Security Professionals perform all the shredding at the event. Paper clips, staples, folders and envelopes are safe for the shredding machine and can be included with the documents. However, none of the following items are safe to be included in the documents: batteries, large metal objects, syringes, sharp objects, food, glass, cans, cardboard tubes, ink cartridges & toners, pressurized containers or electrical items.

After shredding personal documents, the community is also invited to discover spring’s newest styles and trends at Ka Makana Ali‘i’s Style Refresh Sidewalk Sale all weekend long.
